Toddler Community @ CHPC

Our toddler classroom at CHPC is in session Monday through Friday from 8:45am until 12pm. Children may be dropped off between 8:45am and 9am. The toddler classroom has one Lead Teacher (Guide) and two Assistant Teachers (Guides), and an adult to child ratio of 1:4, with 12 children in the class. We welcome children to attend who are between approximately 16 months and 3 years old at program start. Children do not need to have completed toilet learning to attend.

Children in this classroom may attend 2 days a week (Tu & Th), 3 days a week (M-W-F), or 5 days a week (Monday through Friday).

Each day in a Montessori classroom is a little different, as the day is shaped by each child’s interests and independence. The children enjoy a two-hour work period in the classroom, choosing independent work, and we will have a walk and outdoor play period. The Lead and Assistant Guides work to provide a joyful and supportive environment, give children individual and group lessons, allow the children freedom to explore, and build a peaceful community.

We prepare and eat a school-provided snack together as a class each day. This is a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn and begin to practice table manners and etiquette, and to engage in the practical life activities of setting and clearing the table, and preparing snack foods with guidance from adults.

We are pleased to offer a no-commitment program for parents in terms of volunteering. Our Lead and Assistant Guides are happy to assist and support the children in the classroom. We also welcome parents to observe the classroom and to volunteer when we need help with special activities.
